What Class Are You Kathleen?
Kathleen lives in Derby, Vermont in a subsidized apartment with two cats, two pugs, and about 400 clocks. She works at the deli at Price Chopper and she's months behind on her rent. But Kathleen is worried that if she works more hours and makes more money, she could lose her prescription drug benefits and her housing subsidy…
In this episode, Kathleen talks about the ‘benefits cliff’ and the incredible time commitment of working with social service agencies.
(This interview was conducted a year ago. I checked in with Kathleen this week. She is still in the same apartment but her work and financial and housing circumstances are still very tenuous.)
What Class Are You is a periodic series I make for Vermont Public. Thank you Vermont Public for letting me share the series on Rumble Strip.
