This show is a kind of coda to Finn and the Bell….
At long last, the bell is in its tower at Hazen Union High School. The final installation happened right before the Hardwick Memorial Day Parade. I stopped by and recorded some of the volunteers as they constructed the tower, hoisted the bell, and rang in its new life up on the hill over Hardwick.
That was a precious experience to share. Thank you.
Thank you so much
Absolutely precious. Love the local lore. So glad they made Finn’s dream come true.
Another Great Show Erica
Go Finn. Congrats on keeping on keepin’ on Miss Erica.
Thank you.So sorry.
I had to listen to this twice. Finn’s mother’s description of the snow so beautiful, flashing of Fin and she through time and beyond when they would have been old, feeling infinite compassion for everyone – understanding we live each other. I wish I could her her last word when she mentions God. If this were not the most devastating monologue ever spoken one could wish it had been written for the theatre to show the dimensions of grief no one can touch. This has been a profound listening experience. Peabody indeed! Carole Dale
Native Vermonter now living In Birmingham, Alabama– I was so excited to find this website after hearing “Finn and the Bell”
I lived in North Hyde Park not far from Hardwick and we traveled through that area quite often–especially beautiful this time of year (Oct) when the leaves are stunning. I heard Finn’s story on my local NPR station’s Snapjudgment.org and was quite moved by this story as I imagine most folks are. Thank you.
I was drawn to this podcast like a moth to a flame…as if I could not stop myself, I was so compelled and did not know why. But, my Life has asked for this exact type of authentic, raw, and uncensored Truth and you have not disappointed. I have needed this rawness at this time in my life; oddly at it seems for some…I thank you. I am ever so grateful. I appreciate the timeliness because it is perfect. Be well, everyone all make our way. Mhmm, enough said.
Like others, I too listened to the story twice. While we never had children, we have had friends & associates who took their lives & the compassion, beauty and truth Finn’s mother spoke, hit like a ton of bricks. The fact that the community, perhaps even unknown to themselves, came together as the young man expressed as a desire for all, is heart grasping. Like another commenter, Finn’s mothers description of the moments after, facing the snow and feeling the energy as it moved about was indeed worthy of any writers work… because it was truth. Great work & well deserved praise from the Peabody.
