In celebration of the day before Super Tuesday, here’s a story from writer Sarah Miller called Berned in Reno. It’s an account of her deep feelings for Bernie, and canvassing for his campaign in Nevada before the caucus.
Sarah Miller writes for theawl.com, newyorker.com, time.com, thecut.com and others. This story appeared last week on the website, The Awl and you can read the full version here.
My dinner with Bernie
I’ve had several dinners with Bernie but they have all been the same:spaghetti. Two were at Mont. high school and another at City Hall. And there could have been more. But always the same:SPAGHETTI! Not only that, but no meat balls. Is this a socialist thing? I fear for our future, the new one world he is making will be spaghetti and hold the balls. Is this what we want for the masses? Is this how we will all become equal? Sure he speaks good, is a firebrand, etc. but is there not more to life than , well, you know SPAGHETTI?
He’s a pastafarian.
